Lighthouse Challenge Comes To Ocean County Library

TOMS RIVER Ocean County Library will host several lighthouse themed programs to celebrate the tenth annual New Jersey Lighthouse Society’s Lighthouse Challenge.

The Lighthouse Challenge celebrates and raises awareness of the 24 lighthouses in New Jersey.

The Barnegat branch (112 Burr St.) will host the “Leave A Light On” family storytime, featuring lighthouse stories, trivia and a craft project for children to make their very own replica of the Old Barney lighthouse on Thursday, October 15 at 6:30 pm.

Bob Volpe of the New Jersey Lighthouse Society will present the history of lighthouses at the Long Beach Island branch (217 S. Central Ave., Surf City), on Wednesday, September 2 at 7 pm.

The program covers everything from the first earliest New Jersey lighthouses to the women who lived in them. Volpe will speak at the Jackson branch (2 Jackson Dr.) on October 3 at 10 am.

The Jackson branch is also hosting a lighthouse photography contest. All entries must be submitted between September 28-30. The branch will have lighthouse paintings by Ray Miller on display.
