MANCHESTER, NJ – The Manchester Library’s newest book discussion group, The Shalom Book Club will hold its first monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 21st from 11 am to 1 pm. Its focus will be on literature with Jewish themes. It will be led by Dr. Ali Botein-Furrevig, an English professor at Ocean County College and lecturer on all aspects of Yiddish culture throughout Ocean County. She also was the leader for our previous Let’s Talk About It: Jewish Literature series.
The title being discussed in the first session is A Pigeon and A Boy by Meir Shalev, an internationally acclaimed Israeli author. Taking place in 1948 during the Israeli War of Independence, it tells the story of a mortally wounded pigeon handler who dispatches one last message to the girl he has loved since adolescence.
This program is open to the adult public, free of charge.
