Shalom Book Club to Start at Manchester Library

MANCHESTER, NJ The Manchester Library’s newest book discussion group, The Shalom Book Club will hold its first monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 21st from 11 am to 1 pm. Its focus will be on literature with Jewish themes. It will be led by Dr. Ali Botein-Furrevig, an English professor at Ocean County College and lecturer on all aspects of Yiddish culture throughout Ocean County. She also was the leader for our previous Let’s Talk About It: Jewish Literature series.

The title being discussed in the first session is A Pigeon and A Boy by Meir Shalev, an internationally acclaimed Israeli author. Taking place in 1948 during the Israeli War of Independence, it tells the story of a mortally wounded pigeon handler who dispatches one last message to the girl he has loved since adolescence.

This program is open to the adult public, free of charge. However, space is very limited so it is necessary to register in advance by calling 732.657.7600 or by going online to The Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library is located at 21 Colonial Drive in Manchester Twp.
