MANAHAWKIN – Join us at the Stafford Branch of the Ocean County Library on Monday, October 26th, from 11:00-1:00 for a “Journey to Wellness,” presented by the Mental Health Association of New Jersey. The “Wellness on Wheels” RV will be parked in the library lot and will provide an environment of support to individuals who are experiencing mental health and/or substance abuse concerns. This peer-run, self-help center empowers individuals having problems with alcohol, drugs, stress, anxiety, depression, etc., to achieve and maintain their wellness, and realize their full potential. This is a non-profit organization, all discussion is confidential, and no fees are involved. No appointment is necessary.

MANAHAWKIN – Join us at the Stafford Branch of the Ocean County Library on Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 from 1:00-2:30 PM for “Brain Games.” Keeping your mind active improves its performance. Your brain responds to intellectual stimulation by being fit and in good condition. Older adults consistently express their fears about decreasing mental ability such as loss of memory, difficulty in concentrating, inability to adapt to new situations, etc. Just as you do physical exercises to keep your body in shape, doing mental exercises stimulates different parts of your brain and helps retain mental acuity. We’ll provide the brain games and the fun!

MANAHAWKIN – Join us at the Stafford Branch of the Ocean County Library on Wednesday evening, Nov.4th at 7:00 PM to meet Karen Riley, author of Voices in the Pines: true stories from the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Ms. Riley will discuss her book which reveals the incredible lives of the people she interviewed who live and work throughout the Pinelands. Wonderfully illustrated by Andrew Gioulis.

MANAHAWKIN – Join us at the Stafford Branch of the Ocean County Library on Thursday, November 5th at 10:30 AM for our program – “String of Purls.” Whether you’re just learning to knit, crochet, embroider, etc., already know how, or want to know what a “purl” is, join our group where experts will be available to answer your questions. Find that creative streak you know you have with this craft that has recently enjoyed an explosion of interest. For beginners, bring size 10 knitting needles and light-colored 4-ply worsted yarn. To crochet, bring the same type of yarn, and a size “I” crochet hook. If you’re more advanced, bring the project you’re working on. Also an excellent way to exchange ideas.

MANAHAWKIN – Join us at the Stafford Branch of the Ocean County Library at 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 5th for “Sharpen Your Computer Skills.” Learn how to navigate the Web efficiently, learn about Internet safety and security; learn how to set up and retrieve folders and files, and more. You must have mouse and basic Internet skills. There will be a half hour of presentation of the material, and the rest of the time will be practical hands-on and questions. This is a perfect opportunity to build computer confidence in a world that keeps telling us to “check our website.”

The Stafford Branch is located at 129 N. Main St. in Manahawkin. These programs are free and open to the public.  For more information, call (609) 597-3381, or visit our website at http://www.theoceancountylibrary.org
