Manchester Library to Reminisce the 1940s

MANCHESTER – On Monday, November 2nd at 10:00 am, the Manchester Library will host “Forever Forties- Reminiscing the Home Front.” Seniors, spend an hour enjoying the sights, sounds, and trivia of the 1940’s while exchanging memories. Come share and compare experiences, insights, and attitudes about the American home front during the era of Rosie the Riveter and conserving raw materials for the war effort.

MANCHESTER LIBRARY TO SHOW “GREY GARDENS”

MANCHESTER – The Manchester Library will screen the film, ‘Grey Gardens” on Wednesday, November 4th, at 2:00 p.m. and again at 6:00 pm. See this popular biography on a large screen without paying the admission fee of a movie theater! Grey Gardens offers a wry, behind-the-scenes look at “Big Edie” and “Little Edie” Bouvier Beale, two charming eccentric inhabitants of a decaying mansion in the Hamptons who happened to be relatives of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange star as the reclusive mother and daughter whose unconventional tastes and social rebellion transcended public opinion and forged a unique and unbreakable bond. Manchester Library to Celebrate Bronx Day

MANCHESTER- On Saturday, November 7th, at the Manchester Library it will be “Bronx Day” from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm. Everyone is invited to celebrate with us the 100th anniversary of the Grand Concourse. Antonio Sergio Bessa, from the Bronx Museum of the Arts and editor of the book, Intersections at 100: the Grand Concourse will be on hand. Another special guest will be Dave Greco from Mike’s Deli on Arthur Avenue. He will be making homemade mozzarella to share. He will also be signing copies of the Arthur Avenue Cook Book that he authored. There is no registration for this event.

Manchester Library to Host Workshop for Alzheimer’s Caregivers

MANCHESTER- On Monday, November 9th at 10:00 am, the Manchester Library will host “Communication: the Key to Understanding Behaviors,” a workshop for anyone facing the challenges of caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease. Learn how to make your job easier and improve the quality of life- for everyone involved. Find out how to defuse argumentative, aggressive, and other risky behaviors by their recognizing triggers. You will also receive instruction on techniques for effectively responding to repetitive actions, recognition issues and expressions of agitation/ anxiety. This free program, which is open to the adult public, is part of the Manchester Library’s program series marking November as National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. Manchester Library to Host Better Balance for Seniors Workshop

MANCHESTER, NJ – Seniors, visit the Manchester Library on Tuesday, November 10th at 2 o’clock pm to learn how you can overcome balance problems associated with conditions such as arthritis and ear disease that effect many older people. Ron Hyland, the Fitness Director for Keswick Pines in Whiting will show you simple exercises and techniques that you can use both at home and when you’re out and about to help you maintain and strengthen your equilibrium. Mr. Hyland claims that many people are able to rely less on canes and walkers as a result of these methods. MANCHESTER – The Manchester Library will screen the film, “The Proposal” on Wednesday, November 11th, at 2:00 p.m. and again at 6:00 pm. See this popular romantic comedy on a large screen without paying the admission fee of a movie theater! When Margaret, a high-powered editor faces deportation to Canada, she fakes an engagement to her assistant, Andrew. He agrees to participate but says she must go meet his quirky family. Margaret is a true fish-out-of-water where they live in Alaska. This PG-13 rated movie is part of the library’s Feature Film Series. Registration is not required.
